This memorial commemorates the residents of Glasgow who were killed or missing in the Great War (First World War) World War I - 1914 to 1918 and
inscriptions relating to World War II (Second World War) - 1939 to 1945 were added in 1945.
The monument by sculptor Ernest Gillick, (1874-1951), and architect, John James Burnet was erected in 1924.
The memorial was unveiled on 31 May 1924 by Field Marshall Earl Haig O.M K.T C.C.B. Commander in Chief of the Expeditionary Forces in France and Flanders 1915-18.
